Prescription Drug Plans for Elderly?
My Grandmother was not long diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. She have a ton of medicine she have to purchase on her own. It's over $250 a month. She has medicare thank god but no prescription plan near it and when she called them they said that January have already passed and it's too late for her to get hold of it this year. How can she get an affordable Prescription Drug Plan. She's over 65.
Answers: She'll hold to use the drug companies discount plans.
She won't be able to sign up for medicare chunk D until November, and it won't be active until January. She'll hold to pay at minimum a 12% cost.
However, she might be able to sign up for a Medicare Part C plan, and that might lower the cost.
The Part D penalty is 1% per month after one turns 65 if they did not sign up for a plan or hold other credible coverage.
Some of the CHF drugs do have generics. Just fashion sure the MDs write for those drugs and not the latest drug.
I'm pretty sure you can single 'change' twice a year...Jan & Nov. Too late for Jan & too precipitate for Nov.
I don't know how She can untill November...A Private plan?
Do you live near Mexico or Canada..their Drugs are JUST AS GOOD and Cheaper than the US!
I suggest discussion to her doctor's office as deeply of them have programs that she can apply to through the pharmaceutical companies themselves. Generally those programs will repay for up to three prescriptions a month. Wal-Mart also has the $4 generic drugs and a detail of them by category. She can take this detail to the doctor and request that he change similar meds for the one's she is on so that it will be profoundly cheaper. We did this with my mom. The doctor may not be aware that she have no prescription plan and would be more than willing to relieve I imagine. we did this near my mom and cut her medication bill by more than half! Good luck!
